From the original project archiveThe context
Make playful learning accessible across languages.
The recovered account describes supplementary workbooks for an English-learning edition of the Magic School Bus series. A Korean publisher had commissioned initial materials, and Peter was brought in to edit and rewrite the English where needed, including work around idioms and playful language.
The lesson needs to stay inviting while the instructions become easy to follow. The samples show reading comprehension, vocabulary and related learning activities around an existing story, rather than a newly authored book.
The writing role. English-language editing and rewriting of supplementary workbook materials through a Korean publishing partner. The source describes a 30-workbook scope. Peter is not presented as the creator or author of the underlying Magic School Bus series, its stories or illustrations.
A closer look at the craft
Know which language is the obstacle
Idioms and wordplay can create an extra hurdle for a reader learning English. Editing has to recognize that hurdle without removing the pleasure of the material.
Make the activity clear
Questions and instructions tell a learner what to do with the text. Clarity here is part of the educational experience, not merely a surface polish.
Credit the underlying work
